Traditional medicine in all the ancient cultures encloses a hidden wisdom that challenges the western’s understanding.

Healing practices in the Andes, or in the Amazon rain forest are millenium old, eventhough they are also a still living tradition.

Ancient practices mixed with Christian traditions and kept on going through times and are present in the current mestizo culture.

The understanding of health as the balance with nature’s energies implies magic and religious concept. Disease is product of a misconduct, therefore healing goes through a ritual procedure of “reconciliation”.

The use of elements from animal, vegetal and mineral source are far more complex that just the use of plants on the healing tradition.
We will watch and discuss a video on traditional Andean medicine.

This course will be an approach to the understanding of these traditions. It is led by a Medical Doctor, who is aware on healing procedures from both sources: Western medicine as well as Bio- energetical and also the traditional Andean healing.

Academic Objectives:
We search that by the end of this course our students will:

  • Learn about healing traditions in the Andes.
  • Learn about some curing elements.
  • Be able to compare the knowledge they gained with other personal experiences they had before.
  • Will develop interest for a further contact with this culture.

Achievements:
Our students will gain a clearer understanding and respectful attitude towards the still living traditions in the Andes. Will have elements to compare the traditional with the western approach towards health.
